A 3D model of the Lukhang Temple
As a 3D modeler and a designer I think there is no greater honor than to be invited to design and model a 3D print for a temple that desperately needs to be seen and digitalized for the modern age. I want to thank Dorzho Dugarov and the museum director Alex Siedlecki for this great project.
Meet the fifth Dalai Lama’s Secret Temple: The Lukhang is a little-visited temple on a charming island in a lake, behind the Potala in the pleasant Dzongyab Lukhang Park. The Lukhang is celebrated for its 2nd- and 3rd-floor murals, which date from the 18th century.
A much more detailed explanation of the temple for by the exhibition curator Jakob Winkler from this Youtube link.
Here above are some screenshots from the exhibition opening and from the final printed model that was fabricated by Cruzio Aloisi. The model is visible at Arcidosso, Italy.
I designed and visualized the model in three workflows: I had texts and history of the temple that guided my ideas and vision. In addition, I had some photographs taken from the temple. I also had a 2D image of the fine details of the temple. I had an ambition to bring in alot of detail so that the 3D print would be as accurate as possible and bring detailed information to the viewer and vistiors of the exhibition. I think I managed to bring in alot of the architectural detail that brings the temple to life.
The model is made with Blender and rendering workflow with Octane renderer. I had no detailed structural images or layoyt images. The whole model is made with looking at the pictures and details and modeling them by eye. The final 3D model consisted of thousands parts. I convereted the whole project in to an Autoca Fusion file. After that the model was printed in Italy.
Here is a short screen video of the project when printing is in preparation.
Here is also a little animation made from the model - Animation I made with Blender, Octane and Davinci Resolve. Enjoy!
THANK YOU for watching!
